Recipe Blog: German Bratwurst

The history of bratwurst dates back to the Middle Ages. The earliest known recipe for bratwurst is from a cookbook written in 1350. The recipe calls for pork, veal, garlic, and salt, instructing the cook to “stuff the meat into a casing and cook it over an open fire.”

Bratwurst became popular in Germany during the 16th century. It was a common food for soldiers and peasants, and was often served at festivals and celebrations. In the 18th century, bratwurst was introduced to the United States by German immigrants.

Today, bratwurst is a popular dish in Germany, the United States, and other countries around the world. It is often served as a main course, but can also be used as an ingredient in soups, stews, and other dishes.
