When it comes to prepping for an international adventure, we all know the basics to pack. But there are those little travel hacks and unique essentials that can make a trip that much smoother—and sometimes, only a seasoned traveler would think of them! So, we posed a fun question to the International Business Seminars team: “What’s one item you always pack that most people wouldn’t think of?”

From must-have gadgets to comfort items, our team is sharing the unexpected things they can’t travel without. Get to know the clever minds behind IBS and maybe pick up a new packing tip (or two) for your next trip!

Addie (Operations Executive)

“Extra locks (the kind that are flexible) either for my hostel locker or to keep on my bags as I travel.”

Hannah (Program Manager)

“A sleep sound machine and travel toilet paper.”

Grady (Enrollment Manager)

“Extra pairs of socks. Sometimes mid-day after walking around all day, you come back to the hotel before dinner, and having a fresh pair of socks to put on goes a long way!”

Carolyn (Program Manager)

“A change of clothes in my carry-on. People think of it, but only when their luggage doesn’t arrive…”

Annie (Travel Executive)

“A compact power strip with multiple USB ports is something I never travel without. It’s perfect for places where outlets are limited, allowing you to charge multiple devices at once, and it often works with just one adapter plugin for international destinations, which saves space and hassle.”

Adam (Marketing and Technology Manager)

“A small paper copy of my vaccinations and allergies in case there is a situation in which this information needs to be brought up. I learned from another traveler to have this information printed on a laminate card with one side in English and the other in the language(s) of the destination(s).”

And there you have it—the travel essentials our IBS team swears by! Whether it’s something practical, like extra locks or a trusty power strip, or a unique touch like a laminated card with vital info, these items help make each journey a little easier (and a lot more enjoyable). Next time you’re packing, consider adding one of these to your list. Who knows? It might just become your own can’t-live-without travel essential! Happy travels!
