My name is Jaime Pellegrini and I attended the 2018 Summer Europe seminar. I am a junior at Northern Illinois University majoring in accountancy with minors in business analytics and history. I hope to one day merge my accounting degree with my passion for sports and work in the National Hockey League or Major League Baseball. Studying with IBS allowed me to visit countries I never thought I would have time to see while simultaneously learning about foreign business practices. My seminar was the trip of a lifetime.

4) What did you learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Studying abroad with IBS was incredibly worthwhile because of the experience and knowledge I gained. There were so many impressive companies we learned from that I would have never known about. In my eyes, visiting a location is the best way to learn about the culture and it was so enjoyable to experience, for example, how eating dinner in Italy works.
5) Did you develop or improve any qualities or skills during the seminar? If so, what were they and how did they develop/improve?
During the seminar, I was able to step out of my comfort zone and try new things; important life qualities I would have never improved upon without traveling. I also had the opportunity to work on my communication skills with business professionals from foreign countries, an important asset to my future in business.
6) Being able to travel to multiple cities and countries, what travel advice do you have for future students?
After traveling to multiple cities and countries, I would advise future students to be open-minded while traveling. Take the time to try new things and learn about the cultures you are experiencing first-hand. I would highly recommend learning basic phrases in each country’s language, as well as some restaurant-related phrases. This can help when ordering food or asking for the check and it makes a good impression because you are not assuming everyone knows how to speak English.
